General
Collection
This is the main collection comprising high quality selected books.
This collection is organized according to Dewey's Decimal Classification
Scheme and shelved subjects wise according to call numbers (100-999)
pasted on the spine of each item.
Reference Collection
A significant number of current reference sources are available
on reference shelves. Various electronic databases including Government
of Pakistan data, dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, directories,
yearbooks, atlases, bibliographies are distinct feature of this
collection. The reference books can only be consulted within the
library.
Government Documents
The library acquires Government of Pakistan documents including
statistics, annuals and five-year plans, budget, census reports
and other publications both in the print and electronic format.
Documents in this collection are given the designation 'GD'.
Research Material
In order to fulfill the very intensive research needs of its users,
the library acquires research papers, studies, and reports of various
national and international organizations like AERC, PIDE, ADBP,
ADB, IMF, IFPRI, OECD, ICEG, IFC, and HBS.
Depository Collection
The library is a repository for World Bank, Asian Development Bank,
Islamic Development Bank, IDRC, and United Nations publications.
These publications are housed separately with collection designations
'WB', 'ADB', and 'UN'. These collections mostly contain world data,
demographic statistics, economic trends and research projects.
LUMS
Publications
We are housing LUMS faculty and students research out put e.g. MBA
projects, MS projects, theses, dissertations, research assignments,
and the publications of LUMS research centers (SMEC, CMER) in separate
location.
Multimedia Collection
Multimedia section provides access to microfilms, audiovisual material,
CD-ROMs, and DVDs.
Journal Collection
The library has been subscribing to more than 325 national and international
journals and magazines in print and online. A complete list is available
through online public access catalogue and at the reference desk.
The current issues of the periodicals are displayed on special shelves
in the main reading area. Back volumes of these periodicals are
bound and shelved separately.
Course Reserve
Course reserves are maintained to fulfill the textual/course needs
of the students. These are issued for a specific period of time
(usually for three hours) on the instructions of the relevant faculty.
Company Annual Reports
This is a unique feature of LUMS Library; more than 6000 Annual
Reports of approximately 680 companies have been collected and organized
in this collection. This collection is further strengthened by electronic
database VISTA that carries companies' historical data starting
from 1990.
Press Clippings
The library is maintaining press clippings from three major national
dailies (Dawn, Business Recorder, and The News) on 53 different
broad subject areas related to academic programmes. Recently, we
have added a press-clipping database with access to full-text images.
Pamphlet and Reports
The library has an important collection of small pamphlets and reports
on subjects related to teaching and research at LUMS and are housed
separately in boxes.
Electronic Database
The library subscribes to a number of important CD-ROM and online
databases e.g. BPO, Econlit, ACM and IEEE Digital Library, JSTOR,
PakSearch, VISTA, World Development Indicators (WDI), EBSCOHOST
etc. These are searchable from library workstations, campus network
and through World Wide Web.
Pakistan Business Periodicals Index
PBPI is a searchable bibliographic database of articles published
in major Pakistani business periodicals. The references cover the
period from January 1988 to date. It is also available on CD-ROM
for purchase.
LABELNET
It is a consortium of 9 Lahore based business and economics librararies.
The LABELNET database contains bibliographic information of the
materials available in these libraries about Pakistan's economy
and businesses.
