Successful migration from Library Management System to Alma
The Library has successfully completed the migration from our previous library management system to Alma, a next-generation Library Services Platform by Ex Libris. The transition has been completed smoothly, and the Library is now fully operational on the Alma system.
Alma is a globally recognized and premium solution, widely adopted by many of the world’s top-ranked universities and research institutions, including Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, University of Oxford, Imperial College London, ETH Zurich, University College London, and Georgia Institute of Technology. It offers a modern, intuitive, and fully integrated environment for managing and accessing library resources, significantly enhancing the overall user experience.
A key feature of Alma is its powerful discovery interface, Primo, which provides a unified, Google-like search experience. Through Primo, users can:
- Search print collections, electronic resources, and subscribed databases from a single search box
- Access full-text articles, e-books, and journals seamlessly
- Apply advanced filters (resource type, date, subject, availability, etc.) to refine search results
- View real-time availability and location of physical items
- Benefit from personalized services such as saved searches, favorites, and citation tools
These features make discovering, accessing, and managing academic resources more efficient, intuitive, and user-friendly.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Tariq Jadoon for his continuous support, encouragement, and guidance throughout this migration process. We are also deeply thankful to Mr. Faisal Kheiri and his entire team—especially Mr. Khubaib Nazir, Mr. Usman Arif, Mr. Muhammad Mohsin Abbas, Mr. Zubair Khalid, Mr. Kashif Mehmud, Mr. Faisal Rehman, and Mr. Muhammad Ali Butt—whose technical expertise and dedicated support were instrumental in the successful completion of this project. Moreover, I am thankful to the entire library team for their hard work and enthusiasm.
The new system is accessible at: https://libraryportal.lums.edu.pk/. We encourage all users to explore the platform and share their valuable feedback, which will help us further enhance our library services (User Guide).
